Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 egg
- 1 pound white fish fillets such as cod or haddock
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper
In another bowl, whisk together cold water and egg until well combined
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, whisking constantly until smooth
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375F 190C
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring it is evenly coated
Carefully place the battered fillets into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding
Fry for 4-6 minutes, or until the batter is golden brown and the fish is cooked through, flipping halfway through if necessary
Remove the fried fish from the oil and drain on paper towels
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce
